Shangana Cultural Village

Shangana Cultural Village evening festival

Venture back in time and spend an evening in the Shangana Cultural Village with the residents of Shangana tribe. The traditional villages are set in a reserve of forest and grassland, overlooking the valley, and nestled in the shade of ancient umbhaba trees. We take our guests early enough to have some time to browse through the market where residents make and trade their craft. Guests will also meet the chief and some members of his extended family, and visit the Sangoma, an important personage in the village!

As the sun sets behind the mountains, drums beat in the Chief’s Kraal, to announce the arrival of torch lit processions of choirs and dancers, who use song and dance to tell the story of their culture and history. The Royal feast follows, and is a celebration of traditional food served in open sided huts by Shangaan hostesses.
